Whether you’ve lived here all your life or are just beginning your life in this area, we’re glad you’re in Newton, Kansas!
Just 20 minutes north of Wichita, Newton offers a small-town lifestyle with easy access to the conveniences of the metropolitan area. Our residents enjoy a low cost of living and safe environment for children, as well as abundant recreational and entertainment opportunities. A thriving downtown, unique local businesses, shops and restaurants, multicultural diversity, and a strong sense of community give Newton a one-of-a-kind identity.
From the city’s lawless Wild West beginnings and the coming of the railroad, to the immigration of the Mennonites and the introduction of Turkey Red hard winter wheat, Newton embraces its rich history. A trip through the heart of the city, past many historic buildings now put to modern use, will reveal Newton’s pride in its heritage and vision for the future.
A vision for Newton that includes state-of-the-art health care and mental health services that are second to none. Newton Medical Center, a private, not-for-profit hospital, continues to enhance its offerings to the community and provides a wide range of specialty services in addition to serving the city’s basic medical needs.
Newton-based Prairie View is a not-for-profit mental health center that provides a complete range of psychiatric services. Newton Fire/EMS offers some of the best emergency medical care in the area.
Newton’s school system is known for its strong community support and highly qualified teachers. Newton High School boasts award-winning programs in academics, athletics, and fine arts. One of Newton’s two middle schools, Chisholm, is a finalist in the national Schools of Distinction competition, which honors schools that create innovative educational programs.
Newton also has a strong faith community, with about 50 churches calling Newton home. From its Mennonite roots, Newton has grown in religious diversity and many denominations are represented.
The city’s continuous new industrial development brings new employment opportunities to Newton, and residential growth shows our community is becoming known as a terrific place to live and raise a family.
